The Venezuelan Yulimar Rojas, four-time world champion and current Olympic gold medal in triple jump, arrived this Thursday in Paris, where she will participate in the Olympics as a flag bearer of her country, as well as to “inject” energy to the delegation, since she cannot compete due to an injury to her left leg.

“Being the flag bearer at the end is like a prize, as an honor to my work (…) it’s a plus for my delegation, for my team, who are going to give everything for the whole of our country and beyond that, I will add and give a little more injection of that energy”, said Rojas quoted in a press release from the Venezuelan Olympic Committee (COV).

He said his presence in Paris is a step forward for what lies ahead, from “another angle”. “I come to enjoy it, to represent my country, to inject that strength,” he said.

On 2 July, he said that his participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be “a different way”, as Venezuela’s flag.

Rojas, who was injured in April during a training session that broke his Achilles tendon, expressed confidence in the “very big” plan that “God has” for her, meant to inspire other athletes to pursue their dreams and never give up.

He guaranteed that the national delegation, made up of about 30 competitors, “will prove that Venezuela is going to continue making history in an Olympic Games”.

Last April, the athlete, who holds the world triple jump record at 15.74 meters, announced, with “much pain and sadness,” that she was going to miss the Olympics due to injury, He was in surgery in Madrid.
