The Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs of Venezuela, Yvan Gil, issued a response to the recent statements by the president of Chile, Gabriel Boric and claims that his actions reflect a distorted view of reality and a lack of understanding of events in Latin America. “Boric is a piece bought by the U.S. .” he said.

The Venezuelan chancellor stressed that Boric has been influenced by interests outside the aspirations of the peoples of our region. According to Chancellor Gil, the Chilean president has become a “submissive pawn” of US imperialism, which questions its independence and commitment to democratic values.

Gil recalled the importance of historical figures like Salvador Allende and stressed the need for leaders committed to social justice and national sovereignty. In contrast, he felt that Boric’s actions have made him the subject of ridicule on the continent rather than a respected leader. “How much does Salvador Allende need in Chile,” he said.

The Venezuelan minister urged Chile to remember its past under Pinochet’s dictatorship and the impact of neoliberalism on the economy and workers’ rights.

“Today Boric is no longer the laughing stock of a continent, but the most submissive pawn of US imperialism, the same one who ordered to strangle the economy of Chile and then impose the Pinochet dictatorship with blood and fire and install a neoliberal economic regime.”, said Minister Gil.
