“Today we have witnessed long lines of people waiting to vote. We have seen a nation that has come out to express its right to exercise its democracy as mandated by the Bolivarian Constitution,” he said.

The Venezuelan diplomat also emphasized that the presidential elections are occurring as planned despite the countless aggressions orchestrated against his country from abroad in recent years.

Gil urged Venezuelans to turn out in large numbers to vote to “preserve democratic values and the Bolivarian Constitution.”

“It has cost us a lot to get here after so many foreign aggressions that have tried to manipulate and control us to implement neocolonialist and imperialist formulas. Despite everything, we see another manifestation of the people’s courage,” the Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Minister pointed out.

“Today we give the world another example of a leading, popular, and representative democracy! Let us all go out and vote so that peace and love of the homeland may triumph and so that together we may build our country’s future. Participate and defend the homeland!” he stressed.

On Sunday, Diosdado Cabello, the vice president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, assured that Chavismo will recognize the results if their candidate, Nicolas Maduro, loses the presidential elections.

“In the democratic game, we recognize the winner. Therefore, it would be good to ask the opposition sectors what they will do since they have not yet committed to recognizing the results… We invite them to put on the suit of democracy,” he said from the state of Monagas.
