The initiative is aimed at improving air quality and road safety in the country and improving the quality of life of its citizens.

In this sense, the president of the CNTU, William Pérez Figuereo, said that the main objective is to remove from circulation vehicles in poor condition that contribute to environmental and visual pollution, in addition to representing risks to public health.

The plan envisages ensuring that retired vehicles do not return to the streets. To this end, the corresponding authorities have implemented a system of supervised public shredding and official registration of each scrapped unit.

As part of the strategy, concessionaires, insurance companies, banks and other financial entities will grant economic bonds to facilitate the acquisition of modern and less polluting vehicles.

The plan benefits drivers, as well as anyone interested in replacing a deteriorated vehicle. Owners can deliver their vehicles to facilities designated by the competent authorities.

The initiative joins the “Zero Scrap” project of the Santo Domingo East Town Hall, which promotes the removal of abandoned vehicles.
