A total of 504 athletes from 36 sports disciplines will make up the Cuban delegation that will compete in the Central American and Caribbean Games, which start on June 23 in El Salvador.

The Cuban sports newspaper Jit stressed that the multi-time Olympic and world champions Julio Cesar La Cruz (boxing) and Idalys Ortiz (judo) will lead the delegation of the Caribbean country to the sports event.
Cuba aspires to get between 70 and 80 medals in this regional event, which will be held jointly between El Salvador and the Dominican Republic until July 8, said Jose Miranda, the deputy head of the Cuban delegation.
Cuban athletes will arrive in San Salvador on June 19 to compete in 365 events. The organizers of the Central American and Caribbean Games estimate that over 5,200 athletes will be present at this international event, in which some US$195 million have been invested.
The regional competition will grant places in some sports for the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile that will take place in October 2023.
The first Central American and Caribbean Games were held in Mexico in 1926 and the last edition was carried out in 2018 in Barranquilla (Colombia).
Cuba leads the historical medal table with 1,752 medals, followed by Mexico (1,367) and Venezuela (564), according to Prensa Latina.
