Economy Minister Sergio Massa will be the sole candidate for president for the ruling party in Argentina's elections to be held in October.

"Our candidate for president will be Sergio Massa and he will be accompanied by Agustín Rossi as vice-presidential candidate. We recognize comrades Wado de Pedro and Daniel Scioli, who bet on the unity of Peronism, putting the collective before the individual," said the ruling coalition through Twitter.
The ruling party announced the single formula late on Friday despite the fact that a day before the Minister of the Interior, Eduardo de Pedro, had made his pre-candidacy official and that same day the Argentine ambassador in Brazil, Daniel Scioli, had ratified his own.
At midnight this Saturday, Argentina closes the deadline for the presentation of candidates for the mandatory primary elections to be held on August 13. The presidential elections will be held in first round on October 22.

Massa, 51, is Minister of Economy since July 2022, after having been deputy and mayor of Tigre, Buenos Aires province.
Rossi, 63, is Chief of Cabinet of Alberto Fernandez's government, after having been councilman in Rosario, Mercosur parliamentarian, deputy and Minister of Defense between 2019 and 2021.
The center-right opposition coalition Juntos por el Cambio will run two candidates in the primaries: the mayor of Buenos Aires, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, and the former Minister of Security Patricia Bullrich.
