With more than 5 million followers, the U.S. Department of Defense’s official Twitter account retweeted a post that called on the resignation of President Donald Trump over sexual assault allegations.

The post also called on Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore to forfeit his campaign over allegations of sexual abuse targeting women, including underage girls. Nine women have come forward with allegations of sexual misconduct by Moore, including the first case reported by the Washington Post, Leigh Corfman, who claimed that Moore sexually abused her when she was 14 years old.  

Senator Al Franken (D-Minn.) was also called on to step down from his position after revelations that the politician sexually abused a woman. The woman, Leeann Tweeden, alleges that Franken forcibly kissed her during a skit rehearsal.

"I immediately pushed him away with both of my hands against his chest and told him if he ever did that to me again I wouldn't be so nice about it the next time," she said. "I felt disgusted and violated."

Tweeden also released a picture depicting Franken grabbing her breasts while she was asleep.

“The first thing I want to do is apologize: to Leeann, to everyone else who was part of that tour, to everyone who has worked for me, to everyone I represent, and to everyone who counts on me to be an ally and supporter and champion of women,” Franken said in a statement.

“I respect women. I don’t respect men who don’t,” the statement continued. “And the fact that my own actions have given people a good reason to doubt that makes me feel ashamed.”

President Trump, who has refused to comment on the allegations against Moore, took to social media to lambast Franken’s sexual misconduct allegations.

“GOP: Stop making sexual assault a partisan issue. It’s a crime as is your hypocrisy,” the Twitter post read referring to the fact that neither Trump nor Moore, both GOP party members, have faced any accountability or apologized for sexual misconduct allegations.

According to a Pentagon spokesperson, an operator of the Pentagon’s official Twitter site “erroneously retweeted content that would not be endorsed by the Department of Defense. The operator caught this error and immediately deleted it.”
