On Monday, gender activists from America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia inaugurated the 17th Congress of the Women's International Democratic Federation (WIDM) in Caracas.

This event will take place until April 30 and has as its slogan "Women unity against inequalities and violence. For the peace and health of the planet," as explained by WIDM Deputy Coordinator Wafy Ibrahim.
"Holding this congress in Venezuela is transmitting a message to the world. Arriving here and feeling the Bolivarian fervor makes us happy, honors, and gives us strength to continue fighting against imperial aggression," she said.
"The meeting includes not only collective dreams but aspirations and life projects," highlighted Venezuela's Minister for Women and Gender Equality, Diva Guzman.
The representative of the General Union of Palestinian Women, Mona Al-Khalili, asserted that the WDIM congress is a favorable setting to denounce the aggressions, harassment, and outrages that the Zionist regime carries out daily against Palestinian women and men.
The African delegations highlighted the need to speak out against the world's armed conflicts given that women and children tend to be the sectors most affected by violence.
Since its founding in 1945, the WIDF has been active on issues related to anti-fascism, world peace, child welfare and gender rights. It has also played an important role in supporting women's anti-colonial struggles in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
