Saleh is believed to be aligned with his old foes the Houthis to regain his position as the president of Yemen.

The Saudi-based Alarabiya channel reports Wednesday evening that former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh is communicating with several Arab capitals in order to end the conflict in his country, according to an unnamed official.

Its report also suggests that Houthis and Saleh are offering to hand over weapons to the Yemen army forces aligned with the Saudi-led coalition currently attacking Yemen.

The unnamed official also said that Saleh indicated that as part of the negotiations, the Houthis would leave Sanaa and Aden.

Sources also told Alarabiya that Saleh and his sons suggested the mayor of Sanaa as the new prime minister.

Several weeks ago, the Saudi-led coalition started airstrikes on Yemen as part of restoring the Yemeni president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi as the head of the state.

Hadi fled Yemen to the Saudi capital Riyadh after the Houthis took over the Yemeni capital Sanaa.

Alarabiya said that Saleh was also trying to convince the Arab leaders that he had no connection with the Houthis.

The spokesperson of the Yemeni government, Rajeh Badi, said that close aids to Saleh have asked President Hadi for a safe exit from Yemen.
