Yemen Rebel Forces Fire a Scud Missile into Saudi Arabia

Yemeni army units allied with Anasarullah group, also known as Houthis, fired a missile toward a Saudi air base, a local TV channel allied with the group said this Thursday.

"The missile unit of the Yemeni army fired a Scud missile toward Khaled bin Abdulaziz base at Khamees Mushait," Al Maseera TV reported on its Twitter page. The television station said the target was hit.

Residents in the capital Sanaa, which is controlled by the rebel group, reported hearing a big roar as the Scud was launched near the city.

"The army and people's committees at dawn today fired a ballistic missile in response to the continuation of the Saudi aggression in the commission of war crimes against the Yemeni people," one unnamed source told Reuters news agency.

Saudi Arabia began an Arab military intervention against the Houthis and their allies in Yemen's army beginning March 26 to restore the Yemeni government ousted by the group. The Saudis, the United States and their allies say that the rebel Shiite group is supported by Iran. Since then, according to the U.N., they’ve killed over 2,350 civilians in indiscriminate airstrikes.
