Soccer star Zlatan Ibrahimovic is available on a free transfer after running down his contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

English Premier League side Manchester United have offered Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic a one year contract to play at Old Trafford next season, according to reports from French sports radio station RMC.

Ibrahimovic, 34, announced last Friday he would be leaving French champions Paris Saint-Germain at the end of his contract this summer. Manchester United is set to pounce for the Ligue 1 top scorer's services for next season with an option to extend the deal after his first season.

The report says United are one of the world’s few clubs who can meet the hot-shot’s mammoth wage demands, reported to be in the region of US$17 million per season. That's around US$325,000 per week.

However, the former Juventus and Barcelona talisman was extremely critical of under-pressure United manager Louis van Gaal in his autobiography so his signing could be dependent on a new manager being appointed by the Manchester club.

U.S. Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy are also said to be interested in pairing Ibrahimovic with ageing stars Steven Gerrard and Robbie Keane, but the Swedish captain has said he would like to pit his wits in the Premier League before he calls an end to his illustrious career.

The notoriously hot-headed striker played for Ajax, Inter Milan, Barcelona and AC Milan before moving to Paris in 2012.

He has notched 62 goals in 112 international matches for Sweden.
