Thousands of Venezuelans filled the streets of Caracas to mark the 13th anniversary of Commander Hugo Chavez’s passing, in a massive mobilization that highlighted the enduring influence of the Bolivarian Revolution leader.

Popular sectors and militants of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV, in Spanish) organized a series of mobilizations throughout the Venezuelan capital. The commemorative activities began in the morning, with various starting points across Caracas.
The event featured staggered concentrations and short routes originating from different locations in the western part of the city, all culminating at the Cuartel de la Montaña (Cuartel 4F), a historic site situated in the January 23 Parish (23 de Enero, in Spanish), where the remains of the revolutionary leader rest. This convergence point symbolizes the deep reverence and continuity of the Bolivarian ideals that Chavez led.
Yvan Gil Pinto, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, highlighted Chavez’s profound vision for a multipolar world through his official channels. Gil emphasized Chavez’s unwavering drive for brotherhood between the Latin American region and the continent of Africa. The Minister reiterated that these foundational ideas of peace and mutual solidarity continue to guide the path of Bolivarian diplomacy. He reaffirmed that the Eternal Commander consistently advocated for international dialogue and the unwavering principle of national sovereignty, reflecting a foreign policy rooted in respect and cooperation rather than submission.
For his part, Jorge Rodriguez, the President of the Venezuelan National Assembly, paid tribute to the memory of the brilliant strategist. Rodriguez underscored Chavez’s belief that politics is fundamentally an act of tenderness and absolute dedication to the people. He stressed that the leader’s heart became one with the nation, and that his historic call for national unity remains the cornerstone for achieving further victories against external attempts at domination.
Text reads: “Eternal Commander: we find you daily. In the smiles of women, men and children, in every battle and, above all, in victories. We honor the father who with his loving word taught us that politics is an act of absolute tenderness and dedication for our people.”
The commemorative day began in the early hours with an emotional vigil held at the Cuartel 4F. Family members, close friends, and leaders from the Caracas Government gathered to pay their respects to Chavez.
Throughout the day’s events, Venezuelan people reaffirmed its profound commitment to the legacy of the Bolivarian leader. His transformative impact on Venezuelan reality through the implementation of massive social missions and the refounding of the Republic in 1999 remains a pivotal point in the nation’s history, securing his place as a revered figure.
The massive mobilization demonstrably proves that, thirteen years after his passage to immortality, the figure of Hugo Chavez remains the principal reference point for the struggle for independence and social justice throughout the entire Latin American continent, inspiring movements and leaders alike.
