After remarks against Mexicans, the business mogul and Republican candidate continues facing backlash.

NBC Universal announced Monday that it was canceling its ties to Republican candidate Donald Trump, who hosts the network's hit reality show “The Apprentice.”

The network justified the decision as a response to Trump's “recent derogatory statements” about Mexican immigrants.

One of the United States' largest media network's, NBC Universal, following the decision of Univision Communications to cancel its links to Trump.

The presidential hopeful responded to the network's decision on a lengthy statement which has further sparked controversy.

“If NBC is so weak and so foolish to not understand the serious illegal immigration problem in the United States, coupled with the horrendous and unfair trade deals we are making with Mexico, then their contract violating closure of Miss Universe-Miss USA will be determined in court,” said the statement.

Trump also criticized the measure taken against him in comparison to the recent criticism after one of NBC's star reporters, Brian Williams, was found guilty of lying in his coverage on Iraq.

“They will stand behind lying Brian Williams, but won’t stand behind people that tell it like it is, as unpleasant as that may be,” the statement added.

The network's decision would have been inspired by an ongoing online petition which gained more than 200,000 signatures.

Donald Trump caused outrage after a speech during his official campaign launch in which he described Mexican migrants as “thugs and rapists.”
